Mawlamyine, May (22)

In Mon State, one person was killed and another injured in a land depression on May 20, said the social relief groups.

At 45 miles per hour, the depression was centred at Mawlamyine.
One person was killed and another injured when a chimney-stalk of the distillery collapsed in Mawlamyine’s Mupon area after heavy rains caused by land depression.

“In Mawlamyine, a tree fell on the east side of Kyaik Thallam, starting at around 12 noon the day before yesterday. Due to the continuous wind and rain, almost all the trees in Mawlamyine fell.

Houses were destroyed in Thiri Myaing and Thiri Mingalar. We know that two people were injured and one died at the hospital when a chimney-stalk of distillery collapsed in Mupon. In Myaing Thar Yar and Thayar Aye, some houses were slightly damaged. Another firefighter was bitten by a snake, ” the source said.

Due to the land depression, the trees and lamp posts collapsed in Mawlamyine, Paung, Thaton, Chaungsone and Mudon Townships, and at least 50 homes and buildings were damaged.

In some townships, the roofs of monasteries and schools were blown off and fences collapsed.

Temporary relief camps have been set up for more than 150 people from Thayar Aye and Zeyar Thiri wards in Mawlamyine.

Residents said that there were power outages in most townships of Mon State until the evening of May 21 due to the collapse of lamp posts.
