Dawei, July (20)
Residents confirmed to Than Lwin Times that eight women were arrested by the military council in Tanintharyi Region’s Dawei, in five days from July 15 to 19.
On the 15th of July, the military council arrested CDM student Ma Thuza Win Htet from Wegyun Ward in Dawei Township; Daw Moe Kalyar, a vendor from Kanyone Ward; and Daw Thiri Hlaing from Kyaukyet village.
In the afternoon of July 19, five women from the wards — Kyatsarpyin, Daung Ngu and Bonemaw Wards in Dawei — were again arrested and taken away by the military council.
Locals claim that the families of those detained by the military council have been unable to reach them, and their whereabouts are still unknown.
The military council in Dawei has been arresting people affiliated with the Kaung For You online school in recent days. It is yet to be known whether the arrest is related to that school.
More than 1,000 innocent people have been held captive in Tanintharyi Region since the military coup, and the majority of them have received prison terms.
