Palaw, July (20)

One civilian was killed in Painne Taung village of Nan Taung village tract in Tanintharyi Region’s Palaw Township as a result of junta shelling, the locals confirmed to Than Lwin Times.

Military forces from No. 285 battalion opened fire on Painne Taung village using mortars at about 1 am on July 19 and the explosion killed Ko Zin Wyne.

Three mortar shells were randomly launched by junta soldiers into Painne Taung village, damaging one home, killing one person and injuring another.

The military council has been shelling the eastern villages of Palaw Township – Kyaungnei, Hmawmi, Gyintgar and Painne Taung villages – forcing the locals to flee.

In July, there were violent skirmishes between junta forces and the PDFs in Palaw Township, which resulted in casualties on both sides, including some civilian deaths from junta heavy artillery.
