There has been fierce fighting between junta armed forces and resistance groups in Kawmapyin village in Tanintharyi since August 19, the Southern Warriors Defense Force (SWDF) said.

With a strength of 40 junta troops conducting military operations in the village, the clash broke out between the regime forces and the Southern Warriors Defense Force (SWDF).

The battle took place for three hours on August 19, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, injuring three PDF comrades while two junta soldiers might have been injured or died.

A local said there has been ongoing fighting between regime forces and SWDF since the afternoon of August 20, and the military council has continued to attack with mortar shells.

The battle continued until 4:00 pm and the details of the casualties are still unknown, he said.

The clashes in Kawmapyin forced the residents to flee to nearby jungles and safety places.

There are more than 1,000 IDPS escaping the conflict between resistance forces and the military council in Tanintharyi after the coup.
