Junta court extends Mon Chief Minister’s prison sentence to 27 years

On December 6, the junta-controlled court sentenced Mon State Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan to another two years in prison for abuse of power during the election, the sources close to the matter told Than Lwin Times.

After the Military Council opened two cases against Prime Minister Dr. Aye Zan for abusing his power in the 2020 general election under Section 171(f) of the Penal Code, he was sentenced to one year in prison for each case and a total of two years in prison.

Dr. Aye Zan testified in the previous trial that he pleaded not guilty in the election cases.

It is reported that his lawyers will file an appeal in the relevant court for the election fraud decreed by the junta court.

Mon State Minister Dr. Aye Zan was given a total of 27 years in prison after the military takeover, including 21 years for nine charges of corruption, two years under Section 505(b), two years under Section 130(a), and two years for two cases under Section 171(f).

The Chief Minister of Mon State, Dr. Aye Zan, has been detained by the military council in Kyaikmaraw Central Prison.
