Former parliamentary candidate of junta-back party in Paung Township shot dead at home

Paung, 4 February

A former parliamentary candidate of the junta-back Union Solidarity and Development Party in Paung Township, Mon State, was shot dead at his home on 1 February evening.

U Ko Ko Lay was killed by two young persons in at least 9 shots in Paungu Ward, said the locals to Than Lwin Times. He died from serious wounds on the way to hospital in Mawlamyine city.

He was an infamous person who arrested young activists in the township, together with junta soldiers and police.

Local special operation force said the victim was killed in Nan Htike Aung mission.

U Ko Ko Lay was the secretary of USDP in Paung Township. Although he contested the seat for No (2) constituency of State Pyithu Hluttaw in 2020 General Election, he was not elected.

On 28 January,  the house of USDP member, U Myint Tun, in Paung Township was burnt down on 28 January.

People resistant forces are making warning attacks to the pro-military party members joined with junta troops to oppress the public after the military coup on February 2021.
