On the morning of February 22, the military council’s arson attacks and mortar shelling seriously injured two civilians, including a child, and destroyed a church, houses, a car, and motorcycles in KNU Brigade 2’s Thandaung (13 miles) and Leiktho Townships, the locals told Than Lwin Times.
The regime forces fired small and heavy weapons into Leiktho after the KNLA joint forces attacked the junta camp in Leiktho under KNU Brigade 2 (Taungoo District) on February 21.
As a result of the attack, a church and at least 10 houses were destroyed, while a child and a 20-year-old man were wounded in Leiktho.
After the attack, junta army is conducting house-to-house searches and inspections.
Moreover, the two sides traded fire in Thandaung (13 miles) on February 22, and the junta torched Ward 5 and 1, burning five houses, one car, and two motorcycles, the residents said.
In January, the junta army’s artillery shelling and arson attacks destroyed a church and several houses, causing locals to flee their homes and seek refuge in Thandaung (13 miles).
The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) clashed with regime forces in Leiktho two days ago, with the junta army firing mortar shells into nearby villages.
On January 27, the 604th Light Infantry Battalion ransacked and destroyed two civilian houses in the Kawthoolei area of KNU Brigade 2’s Taungoo District.
