Kawthaung, February 923)

The fighting that broke out in Waidin village in Tanintharyi Region’s Kawthaung Township on February 21 resulted in casualties on both sides, the People’s Defense Force-Kawthaung told Than Lwin Times.

The 200-strong military column launched an offensive in Waidin village, which was controlled by the Kawthoolei Army (KTLA) and PDFs, and engaged in four hours of gunfire.

Nearly 10 junta troops were killed, and two PDF comrades sustained minor injuries.

The fighting has forced more than 200 Waidin villagers to flee into Thailand, with some residents hiding in the jungles.

The junta column is still present in Waidin village, where tensions have been rising and are likely to continue to rise.

There has been an ongoing fight in Tanintharyi Region’s Palaw, Tanintharyi, Dawei, and Kawthaung since the second week of February as the regime troops invaded the area.
