The combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) fought with the regime troops as the latter invaded Khemauk village in Mon State’s Belin Township, the chairman of the KNA’s Allied Supervisory Committee, Thaton.
The 50-strong junta column entered Khemauk village from Zeewon village in Belin around 4 pm on February 21 and was engaged in battle with KNLA joint forces.
A comrade from the KNLA sustained a minor injury in the clash, while U Myin Than, a local resident, was killed by junta shelling.
The chairman of the KNU’s Allied Supervisory Committee said that casualties are still being investigated.
Moreover, the junta troops took 30 mobile phones from a mobile shop and ransacked the villagers’ houses while invading Khemauk village.
After raiding the houses, the regime troops left for Belin in the evening.
The junta army and the KNLA joint troops had not engaged for months in Beilin Township, but there has recently been a new round of fighting.
On February 17, the military convoy was attacked while heading to Belin from Thaton, killing at least seven regime troops.
