An elderly woman was in critical condition with serious injuries after she was hit by a junta’s artillery shell in Aung Thar Yar village in Mon State’s Ye Township, on the afternoon of March 5, the residents and social rescue workers told Than Lwin Times.
When there was no fighting, the Lamaing-based No. 317 artillery unit fired indiscriminately four mortar shells into the village, which exploded.
A shell fired by the regime forces exploded on a house near the monastery of Aung Tha Yar village, injuring a 78-year-old woman in the abdomen.
The elderly woman was transported to the Mawlamyine Public Hospital by social rescue teams and is reportedly in a severe condition after suffering bowel injuries.
According to reports, the injured woman died while receiving treatment at Mawlamyine Hospital, but Than Lwin Times has not been able to confirm this independently.
Two civilians were killed and at least 10 were injured due to artillery shells fired by the junta forces in Ye Township under the military regime.
