Tanintharyi, March (12)
Nine military personnel were killed in a landmine attack on a military convoy near Kamto village in Tanintharyi, which was placed under martial law, on March 10.
The combined force of resistance forces—Myeikk Battalion 2, Myeik People’s Defense Force, Taninthryi PDF and Kyunsu PDF—attacked a military convoy carrying over 60 soldiers traveling from Myeik to Tanintharyi around 10 am on that day.
Following the explosion, the two sides traded gunfire for about an hour, resulting in the deaths of nine soldiers and the injuries of ten more.
A comrade of Tanintharyi PDF said that the soldiers who died in the battle were carried by their troops in a vehicle and left for Tanintharyi.
Now, tensions between the two sides have risen as junta forces prepare to invade Tanintharyi in the aftermath of the landmine attack.
There have been at least 10 clashes between the junta army and the combined force of People’s Defense Forces in February in Tanintharyi Township, where martial law has been imposed.
