Thaton, April (15)
In Mon State’s Thaton Township, the military council has prohibited two men from riding motorcycles together during Thingyan, and those who do not follow the rules are constantly being arrested, the locals confirmed to Than Lwin Times.
The military council’s order to prevent the two men from riding motorcycles together came after the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) warned the public not to participate in the Thaton Walking Thingyan organized by the military regime.
After the ban on two people riding on the same motorcycle was imposed, the junta-affiliated forces have been detaining locals who violated the rules, and so far, at least 20 people have been arrested.
Furthermore, the military council forbids revelers from riding motorcycles while drunk, honking loudly, driving with the exhaust-pipe removed, and wearing sexy clothes that are inappropriate for Myanmar culture.
There were few revelers who participated in Thingyan, organized by the military council in Thaton, and the streets of the whole city were deserted, with only a few children splashing water in the streets of the neighborhood.
Residents claim that on the night of April 13, an explosion hit the administrative office in the village of Htaung Hmu, destroying the office building, and that the military council then started gunfire at night in some neighborhoods of the Thaton.
