Pwintbyu, April (17)
Gambling activities had to cease after a shooting occurred at a gambling ring in Shaut Taw village in Magway Region’s Pwintbyu Township, the locals told Than Lwin Times.
The gambling activities were halted after the Peacocks Brothers Urban Guerilla group shot and killed Pyu Saw Htee leader at 3:00 p.m. on April 12.
“There are a lot of gambling rings in the township. That gambling ring is on the side of Pwintbyu-Salin Road. The soldiers and the police were bribed to allow the gambling ring to be operated. The armed men shot dead the leader of the cockfight. The betel shop and food shop in that area were demolished in the evening,” locals told Than Lwin Times.
After the coup, many gambling groups were operating in neighborhoods and villages except for the center of Pwintbyu, the leaders of the gambling rings were claimed to be making money for the regime troops.
According to reports, the money collected from these gaming rings will be allocated proportionally to junta soldiers and police officers, who are paid more than five million kyats every week.
The Pwintbyu PDF gunned down Aung Naing Soe, the leader of Pyu Saw Htee, last year, but he was just injured, and after he recovered, he returned to the gambling rings again, so he may have been assassinated till his death, the locals said.
