Yangon, April (26)

Acting President Duwa Lashi La of the National Unity Government (NUG) has criticized the visit of a delegation led by former UN Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki-moon to Myanmar and meeting with military leader General Min Aung Hlaing as putting a stupid man on stage.

The NUG’s Acting President made this comment at the 16th cabinet meeting held on April 25 regarding Mr. Ban Ki-moon’s visit to Myanmar.
The Acting President criticizes Mr. Ban Ki-moon’s visit as putting the stupid man of the military council, who is killing people and destroying properties, on the international stage, and this is an ethically inappropriate matter.

In addition, international representatives seem to be trying to get the military council to compromise, and people need to be careful that the previous military regimes have approached things in similar ways, thus prolonging the life of the military dictatorship, he warned.

Acting President Duwa Lashi La urged members of the NUG government to continue attempting to prevent the military council from entering the international arena through diplomacy, to always remember the lives of those who are killed and tortured every day, and to make the entire international community aware of this.

Mr. Ban Ki-moon said that during his visit to Myanmar, he urged the military council to end the violence, to find a way to establish an inclusive and legitimate democratic government, and to meet and discuss with the National Unity Government (NUG) in order to solve the Myanmar crisis.

During his two-day visit to Myanmar from April 23 to 24, Mr. Ban Ki-moon met with former President U Thein Sein and military leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, reported military council.
