Kyaikto, April (28)


A monk was hit by a piece of shrapnel when the regime troops fired artillery shells around the area of Kyaukpongyi in Theinzayat Town in Mon State’s Kyaikto Township, locals told Than Lwin Times.


On April 26, around 4:00 p.m., Theinzayat-based Light Infantry Battalion 207 launched at least four artillery shells into the vicinity of Thonekhwa village.


A piece of shrapnel fired by the junta army injured a monk in the head as he returned from receiving alms, and the monk has been sent to the hospital.


The injured monk is 50-year-old Sayadaw U Zawtika from the Dhammabyuha monastery in Thonekhwa village.


After three military personnel were killed in an attack on a Mokepalin junta checkpoint, the military regime has kept shelling into the villages in Kyaikto.


In Kyaikto Township, the junta artillery strikes killed at least 10 civilians in March, and thousands of local residents had to flee their homes, according to the KNU-Thaton District.
