Tanintharyi, June (20)
Heavy fighting has taken place as the regime troops have raided the Banlaw and Thamee Hla villages of Tanintharyi Township, where martial law has been imposed, members of the Tanintharyi PDF told Than Lwin Times.
The joint military column of Light Infantry Battalion 561, based in Nyaung Kwin, has been invading since June 17 and is fighting with the allied revolutionary forces.
On June 17, at least two soldiers were killed and two locals were injured by junta shelling in a day-long battle.
Fighting continued on June 18 and 19, and the regime forces stationed in the village were surrounded and attacked by the joint resistance forces, a source from Tanintharyi PDF said.
With the ongoing fighting, more than 3,000 residents of Nyaung Pin Kwin, Chuak Mile, Sin Gaung, Banalw, Banlin, Thamee Hla, Kawtaw, Yepaw, Bankyoke, Thakyat and Kwe Htein Kon villages have fled their homes.
Banlaw and nearby villages in Taninthary Township are also strongholds of the People’s Defense Forces.
In Tanintharyi, there were about 50 clashes between the junta army and the revolutionary forces in May, forcing more than 34,000 people to flee their homes, reported local research organizations.
