Kyaikto, June (25)
Four policemen, including the police chief from Kinmonchaung police station at the foot of Kyaiktiyo Hill in Mon State’s Kyaikto Township have been missing, a source close to the matter told Than Lwin Times.
Four police officers, including police chief Zaw Min Aung, went missing from the police station on June 22 .
They have disappeared from the camp without taking their guns or ammunition.
A person close to the police force said that the disappearance of four policemen, including police chief, may have been due to pressure from their seniors, and they did not want to continue their duties.
Since police chief, Zaw Min Aung, transferred to the Kinmonchaung police station more than a year ago, the combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) has attacked the police station at least five times.
The junta is hunting for the four policemen, who have yet to be found.
The military council transferred several police officers from Mon State to Sagaing and Magway, forcing some of them to desert the police stations.
The National Unity Government (NUG) reported that more than 13,000 junta soldiers and police have joined Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) during more than two years since the military coup.
