Heavy fighting may erupt if regime troops, which are invading near Laiza District in Kachin State, continue to move forward, Colonel Naw Bu, the spokesperson of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) told Than Lwin Times.

Since June 26, the junta army has been conducting offensive operations in the area of Battalion 3 of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) in Waingmaw Township, Kachin State, and the military situation between the two sides remains intense until early July.

Regarding this situation, the information official of KIO, Colonel Naw Bu, said that the military council has not stopped their operations, and that the two sides are firing at each other with heavy weapons.

He added that civilians, many of whom are the elderly, women, and children, are fleeing the area around Laiza and the fighting area.

On July 3, a battle broke out between the regime forces and the KIA in Nam San Yang Village, Waingmaw Township, which is more than 11 miles away from Laiza, where the headquarters of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) is located.

On July 4, the Laiza District Administration Office issued a warning to the public to be cautious as there are military activities of the junta army in the KIO’s administrative area of Laiza District.

The KIO warned the people to avoid traveling along Bamaw-Myitkyina as much as possible, and travelers by car, motorcycle, or on foot should listen to the military information.

The KIA has warned the people not to go to places close to the regime troops, to avoid places where there is a possibility of fighting, and not to support the junta army either with human resources or materials.
