The displaced women and children in KNU’s administrative area are suffering from malaria and need urgent help, the Karen Women’s Organization (KWO) told Than Lwin Times.
The displaced people do not get enough food and health care during the rainy season, and suffer from malaria.
Malaria cases are most common in KNU Brigade 3, Nyaunglaybin District; KNU Brigade 5, Hpapun District; and KNU Brigade 6, Doopalaya District.
Naw Sae He, vice chairman of Karen Women’s Organization (KWO) said, “During the rainy season, women and children suffer from malaria and have no access to health services. The road is too far to travel. There are not enough mosquito nets for mothers and children. There is a shortage of food. There is not enough health care in the refugee camps”.
The IDPs are suffering from mosquito bites while living in the forest, and there are not enough mosquito nets.
The displaced children fleeing the conflict for a long time are suffering from diseases and losing their lives due to a lack of timely access to meal, said Saw Nanda Suu, organizer of the Karen Human Rights Group (KHRG).
The number of IDPs in the KNU area has reached nearly 600,000 due to the military council’s brutal attacks and human rights violations targeting civilians.
The Karen social organizations said that internally displaced people (IDPs) are still in need of urgent humanitarian aid.
