Hpa-an, July (11)

A mine destroyed a bridge between Wa Boe Taw and Bayint Nyi Naung Cave at Wa Boe Taw village in Karen State’s Hpa-an Township in the early morning of July 10, locals told Than Lwin Times.

An unidentified armed group blew up the bridge, which is around 80 feet long and 30 feet wide.

The explosion broke some planks in the middle of the bridge and caused damage to the bridge’s railings, so traffic was temporarily closed.

However, small cars and motorcycles were permitted to pass beginning at 9:00 a.m., and trucks and other passenger vehicles beginning at 12:00 p.m.

The bridge is the longest on the Thathon – Hpa-an road and is located on the important commerce route linking Myawaddy, Hpa-an, Thaton, and Yangon.

The spokeswoman for KNU Brigade 1-Thaton did not respond immediately to requests from Than Lwin Times for comments regarding the explosion of the bridge.

On June 29, the KNLA joint force detonated the Kyoneik bridge on the Yangon-Mawlamyine road near Shwe Yaung Pya village between Mon State’s Thaton and Belin on June 29, destroying one lane of the bridge.

The attack on Kyoneik Bridge was aimed at cutting off the military council’s supply route, said the KNU’s Allied Oversight Committee-Thaton.
