A man riding on a motorcycle sidecar was seriously injured as he struck a landmine on the Yangon-Mawlamyine road near a monastery in Myaynigon village in Mon State’s Thaton Township, locals told Than Lwin Times.
Around 7:00 a.m., a sidecar rider driving from Naung Kalar Village to Thaton stepped on a landmine while stopping at a roadside near Myaynigon village.
The shrapnel from the explosion left 45-year-old U Aung Myint Kyi with landmine injuries on his abdomen, chest, and legs, and he is in a life-threatening condition.
U Aung Myint Kyi was immediately transferred from Thaton District Public Hospital to Yangon General Hospital, said an official of the social rescue team.
The Yangon-Mawlamyine highway, where the explosion occurred, is being used for military operations by the junta army as well as the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) joint forces.
The telegram accounts of military lobbyists propagandized that the landmine that U Aung Myint Kyi stepped on was a mine planted by the joint forces of the Karen National Union (KNU) and the People’s Defense Force (PDF).
There were numerous skirmishes between the military council and the revolutionary forces during the military coup on the Yangon-Mawlamyine road, and people sustained injuries or died as a result of mine explosions and ambush attacks.
