On July 12, five civilians, including a child, were injured when drunk sub-inspector Myo Thiha from the Theinzayet police station in Mon State’s Kyaikto Township struck them with his car, locals told Than Lwin Times.
Myo Thiha, a sub-inspector who was driving drunk from the old Sittaung Bridge, collided with a motorcycle driven by the daughter, son-in-law, and grandson of ward administrator U Than Win on the Yangon-Mawlamyine road near No. 3 Ward, Theinzayet Township.
U Than Win got into an argument with the police officer after arriving at the scene of the incident, and sub-inspector Myo Thiha threatened to shoot the family members and drove away without apologizing.
According to those close to the victim’s family, sub-inspector Myo Thiha then hit a motorcycle being driven by two women on the road near Tharyargon village and ran away.
The two women who were seriously injured in the collision were taken to Theinzayet Hospital, while the three family members of the administrator suffered minor bruises.
It is reported that the military council did not take responsibility for the accident, and the police authorities did not take any action against the sub-inspector, Myo Thiha.
