Myeik, July (15)
There are growing concerns among locals and businesspeople in Myeik Township, Tanintharyi Region, as a result of reports that a joint team of the military council and departments is planning to seize Thai gold and some food products.
It has been reported that the inspection team from Nay Pyi Taw will visit Myeik Township between July 17 and 19 to inspect Thai gold and food products.
Therefore, some gold shops temporarily ceased selling Thai gold, and some businessmen stopped importing Thai goods.
According to a businessman, everyone is concerned that untaxed or illegal goods may be seized.
Myeik is the commercial hub of Tanintharyi Region, and the region uses Thai products the most, and local aquatic products are also exported to Thailand.
Since the coup, the military council confiscated Thai commodities in southeastern Myanmar, including Mon State, Karen State, and Tanintharyi Region, claiming they were illegal.
