Four people killed, two others injured in flooding in Mon State

Children were among four killed by floods in Mon State, and two more were injured, according to figures received by Than Lwin Times.

Incessant rain since the morning of July 18 caused floods and landslides in Mawlamyine, Ye, Paung, Chaungson, Mudon, Thanbyuzayet and Kyaikmaraw townships of Mon State.

Floods killed a one-and-a-half-year-old boy and two 13-year-old boys in Mawlamyine.

On July 20, a man who was collecting firewood was swept away by floodwaters in Paung Township, and his body was discovered near Chaung Hna Khwa in Ottan village.

On the morning of July 19, a brick wall collapsed on a five-storied dormitory in Nyaung Pin Seik neighborhood of Mawlamyine amid heavy rain, injuring a couple, Ko Kyaw Thet and Ma Kyi Kyi Khaing.

A house was damaged due to a landslide in Chaungson Township, and seven families were displaced while one bridge collapsed in Ye-Kyaung Ywar Road, Kyauk Mi Chaung village of Ye Township.

More than 100 flood-affected people who were urgently evacuated due to floods across Mon State have all returned to their homes on July 21, said social rescue teams.
