Kyaikto, July (30)
Military’s checkpoint at the intersection of Sittaung Bridge Road near Moppalin village in Kyaikto Township of Mon State was attacked by the resistance forces around 1:30 p.m. on July 28.
Combined forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defense Forces (PDF) used heavy weapons and small arms in attack on the checkpoint where soldiers and police forces were stationed, leaving casualties on both sides in the fighting that lasted almost 15 minutes, according to locals and resistance forces.
The battle claimed the lives of seven junta soldiers and injured eight others, while two comrades of KNLA were wounded, said the Kyaikto Revolutionary Forces (KRF).
After the Moppalin checkpoint was attacked, the junta battalions based in Theinzayet deliberately fired heavy weapons into a village uner the KNU-controlled area of Kyaikto Township.
Since the February 2021 coup, the Moppalin checkpoint has been the target of resistance forces, with junta troops suffering heavy losses during the battles.
