Female political inmates who were accused of commemorating Martyrs’ Day in Tharyarwadi prisons, Bago region, were tortured in solitary confinements, according to the report of Political Prisoners Network (Myanmar).
These 15 inmates, ages ranging from 18 to 60, are serving three years to life imprisonment.
“We got the information from our released prisoners. Some were tortured and got wounded. A 60-year old woman, namely Daw Ye Ye Swe, has been consigned to solitary confinement since Martyrs’ Day,” said a responsible person of the prisoner network to Than Lwin Times.
These prisoners were sentenced with the charges of Section 505 (b) in relation to offence against the State or against the public tranquility and with the charges of terrorism act.
Political Prisoners Network (Myanmar) reported that the prisoners in solitary confinement in Tharyarwadi prisoners are Hnin Lei Nandar Lwin, Shun Ei Phyu, Nilar Sane, Su Ye Paing, Wut Ye Lwin, Aye Thida Kyaw, Ye Ye Swe, Lwin Lwin Nyunt (a) Ar Jar, Sandi Nyunt Win, Aye Thet San, Shwe Yi Nyunt (a) Thae Thae, Yamin Htet, Htoo Htet Htet Wai, Myo Thandar Tun and Moe Myat Thazin.
An update of report of Assistance Association for Political Prisoners on 1 August said that there are nearly 20,000 political inmates in the prisons at present.
