Mortar shelling of regime troops in KNU-controlled Mone township killed a student and a woman, injuring three others, according to the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA).

Mone-based Light Infantry Battalion 599 fired three artillery shells into Mwedwin village on 2 August evening, one of which exploded after landing on a house, said the statement.

The explosion injured three local residents, including a 6-year-old child, who were at home, and killed a 37-year-old woman on the spot.

Meanwhile, a shell launched by the junta’s LIB 274 landed in Thaminkon hamlet in Kyauk Ta Dar Township around 8 a.m. on 3 August, killing a 16-year-old tenth-grade student.

Many local people have been killed or injured as a result of the junta’s artillery shelling and airstrikes in the territory of KNU Brigade 3, Nyaunglaybin District, and many have fled their homes.
