Launglon, 9 August
The Dawei Urban Guerilla Force attacked regime troops who arrived to check on the demonstration commemorating the 35th anniversary of the 8888 Uprising on August 8 in Launglon, Tanintharyi Region.
Yesterday, around 7:30 a.m., the allied forces of Dawei Guerilla Force, Dawei People’s Defense Force, and DDT Division 3 wrote the four digits “8888” on the road and set ablaze old car tires at Nyaungpingyi crossroad near the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology in Launglon.
The resistance forces opened fire and mined two military patrol vehicles that arrived to check out the incident.
After that, there was an exchange of fire for nearly five minutes, and there may be casualties on the junta side, but the details of the situation on the ground are still being investigated, said the resistance fighters.
The Dawei Urban Guerrilla Force issued a joint statement claiming responsibility for the attack and denying any involvement of the people or strike groups in it.
According to locals, more junta soldiers arrived, blocked the road and inspected pedestrians.
