Real vs. Fake News

Mingalabar! Welcome to Than Lwin Times’ Real vs. Fake News program.

This program checks fake news and misinformation about revolution events on social media after the military takeover.

Today, we will verify the news circulated on social media saying, “52 members of People’s Defense Forces were arrested as Thai authorities inspected a vegetable truck at Mae Pa Gate, Mae Sot”.

This fake news has been circulated by pro-junta fake accounts of Kyaw Swar, Han Nyein Oo, and Sergeant Phoe Si on social media since 4 August.

The Than Lwin Times investigated the post and photos and discovered them to be false.

Military supporters disseminate false information that Thai security forces searched a six-wheeled vehicle transporting green produce from Mae Sot, Thailand’s Tak province, to Bangkok and discovered undocumented Myanmar workers.

25 Myanmar workers were arrested while traveling to Thailand with the expectation of working in Bangkok, and Mae Sot officials are searching for the brokers, reported VOA.

According to the reliable sources mentioned above, the report, “52 members of People’s Defense Forces were arrested as Thai authorities inspected a vegetable truck at Mae Pa Gate, Mae Sot “, is just false information spread by junta supporters.
