Myawaddy, 16 August

Fierce fighting has taken place as regime force launched ground and air assaults to regain Lat Khat Taung tower hill camp near Karen State’s Myawaddy Township since 15 August.

The combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) has clashed with the junta army and its affiliated BGF near Myawaddy.

The junta troops suffered heavy losses, while some casualties were reported on the KNLA side, but Than Lwin Times is still investigating the situation.

On 21 July, the KNLA’s Cobra column and allied resistance forces captured the Lat Khat Taung tower hill camp which is strategically important for the military council.

After the KNLA joint forces occupied La Khat Taung tower hill camp, the junta army and BGF launched a massive offensive to recapture the camp, using heavy weapons and aerial assault.

A total of 17 military personnel, including two captains, were killed and 34 others were injured, while the resistance forces lost one comrade and eight others sustained injuries, reported Cobra column on 14 August.

Meanwhile, a lance corporal and a private from regime troops, who were trying to regain Lat Khat Taung hill camp, defected to KNLA along with heavy weapons and small arms, according to Cobra column.
