Pwintphyu, 1 September
A man and a woman were arrested in Pwintphyu township, Magway region, for making counterfeit money, according to the reports of military media.
They were the tenants of a home in Shautaw village of Pwintphu township, and were arrested on 29 and 30 August.
The woman was found with the machines of counterfeit currency at the village, and the man was seized at a convenience store in the town.
A local said to Than Lwin Times, “They are tenants, but we did not know where they are from. We learnt that they were traced in Yangon, and arrested them here.”
Reports said that the counterfeit money produced in Pwintphyu is being circulated in Yangon.
Locals remarked that these counterfeit currency is being used in at the local gambling houses which are being run with the permission of military council.
More than 430 pieces of counterfeit money, a machine and a laptop were confiscated with the suspects who are now being further investigations under detention at the police station.
