Myawaddy, 7 September

The death toll from drone attacks on district administrative office in Myawaddy township in Karen State rose to nine, sources close to military council told Than Lwin Times.

On 3September, at around 7:00 p.m., the combined forces of Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) dropped two bombs using a drone on the Myawaddy administrative office, killing five people, including district administrator U Soe Tint and injuring 11 others.

Four of the five policemen, including Myawaddy District’s Police Lt. Col. Aung Htet Win, receiving treatment at Mae Sot Hospital in Thailand, died on 5 September.

A source close to the police said that the four police officers who died were Police Lieutenant Colonels Myo Win and Tun Tun Naing, Deputy Inspector Thek Khaing, and Police Lance Corporal Myo Min.

Myawaddy District’s Police Lt. Col. Aung Htet Win, who is receiving medical treatment for serious injuries, is also in critical condition.

Lt. Col. Aung Kyaw Min, the front-line commander of Infantry Battalion 275, was also killed in the drone attack.

After the drone attack on Myawaddy administrative office, the Federal Wings drone unit warned unarmed departmental staff and their family members, and military families to leave the relevant offices, military bases, and staff housing.
