Dawei, 12 October
Local residents were frequently burned down in Palaw, Thayetchaung, Dawei and Yebyu townships in Tanintharyi Region in recent days, according to the officials from Tanintharyi’s People’s Defense Forces.
While invading the villages, regime troops torched and destroyed local people’s homes, accusing them of informing, supporting, and providing financial assistance to the members of PDFs.
Most of these villages were burned down after the battle between the junta army and the People’s Defense Forces.
According to the information gathered by Than Lwin Times, at least 20 civilian homes in Tanintharyi Region were burned down in the 10 days from October 1 to 10.
A PDF official in Tanintharyi told Than Lwin Times that the military council’s actions were aimed at instilling fear in the people and making the people fed up with the PDFs.
Recently, at least four local residences were torched when the military column invaded Pagawzun and Yalaing villages in Yephyu Township on October 10.
Around 40 houses were torched in Tanintharyi, including 33 houses in Palaw Township, five in Yebyu, and two in Thayetchaung Township in September, according to local research organizations.
