Kawkayeik, 25 October
Myanmar military, which suffers huge losses, began conducting airstrikes in the morning of October 24 near Kawkayeik Township in Karen State, according to sources on the ground.
The regime troops advanced on Sin Gon village near Kawkayeik around 5 a.m. on 24 October and clashed with the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs).
The junta used artillery shells and conducted air raids, said the resistance fighters.
According to the sources on the ground, the battalion commander was killed in the combat, and there were many casualties, the exact number of which has yet to be confirmed.
The junta’s artillery fire and air assaults forced the local residents of nearby villages such as Tatan Ku and Sin Gon to flee, locals said.
The military council’s aircraft began flying over Kawkayeik on the night of October 23, and fierce fighting erupted by the early morning of October 24, with tensions between the two sides remaining high until late at night, according to the local residents.
