Heavy casualties are being endured by the junta army and resistance forces in the clashes between Thayat and Bankyoke villages in Tanintharyi Township, according to the revolutionary forces.
The fierce fighting broke out when a military column with 80 soldiers advanced towards the village around noon on 6 November.
At least three junta soldiers were killed and two others were injured during the six-hour battle.
Tanintharyi-based No. 561 Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) supported its troops by firing artillery shells into the village.
No fighting was reported on November 7, but the presence of the junta column kept the tension between the two sides, said the revolutionary forces.
More than 500 locals from the villages – Thakyat, Bankyoke, Banlaw, amd Ganankwin – have been displaced by junta shelling during the battle.
In October, at least 10 clashes have been reported between the two waging rivals in Tanintharyi, where martial law has been imposed, according to the local research organizations.
The revolutionary forces have warned the public to be extra cautious as fighting in Tanintharyi may intensify in the coming open season.
