The artillery shells fired by regime forces in the battle that broke out in KNU Brigade 3 area between December 3 and 7 killed one civilian and wounded seven others, reported the KNU on December 8.

In five days of fighting, 62 artillery shells were fired into Shwe Kyin and Kyaukkyi Township in Nyaunglaybin District by regime bases and outposts.

On December 5, the Painzalote-based military unit launched heavy weapons, killing 27-year-old Ko Aung Gyi in Nat Than Kwin village in Kyaukkyi and injuring Maung Htin Shar in Ye Phyu Kan village.

Moreover, U Kyaw Khin from Kywegyan village received shrapnel wounds by the shell launched by the Infantry Battalion 60 on December 6.

According to the statement, Ma Ta El Htwe suffered serious injuries along with Ma May Thinzar Moe, Maung Htet Naing, and Ma May Thinzar Moe in the attack by the 57th Infantry Battalion of the Military Council, which is based in Shwe Kyin.

The junta shelling destroyed at least four houses, forcing the villagers to flee their homes.

More than 70,000 people were displaced due to the recent fighting in Nyaunglaybin District’s Mone Township, according to the statement.
