Kyaikto, July (11)
An unidentified armed group arrested four people, including the owner of a guesthouse and restaurant, on the roadside of the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway in Sittaung Village in Mon State’s Kyaikto Township, locals told Than Lwin Times.
On July 8, the owner of the guesthouse, U Pyae Sone Hein, and three employees were arrested by an armed group near Kanni Village, on their way from Sittaung Village to Theinzayet Town.
U Pyae Sone Hein was said to be a military informant who worked with the military council and had been warned by some armed organizations.
“He was known to be a military informant,” said Ko Aye Min Tun, a spokesperson for PDFs-Thaton District, “and we are investigating which group arrested them”.
U Pyae Sone Hein and three employees were held incommunicado, and no group has claimed responsibility for the detention.
According to locals, U Pyae Sone Hein Hein grew in power following the military coup and was frequently seen hanging out with military officials.
Military informants, ward and village administrators, and junta lackeys are claimed to have been targeted in Kyaikto township since the coup.
