A cowherd died after accidentally stepping on a landmine near Wetwun Moutain between Wadakkwin and Kanyinai villages in Kyaikta Township, Mon State, locals confirmed to Than Lwin Times.
On the morning of July 14, 12-year-old Maung Aye Chan from Wadakkwin village was herding cattle when he hit a landmine at the intersection of Ah Yoe Oh near Wetwun Mountain.
Maung Aye Chan suffered severe injuries to his right leg and thigh from the mine blast and died on the spot, locals said.
The deceased cowherd, Maung Aye Chan, was taken to the Kyaikto Township Public Hospital and cremated on July 15.
Ko Aye Min Tun, the spokesperson for PDF-Thaton District, told Than Lwin Times that the area where Maung Aye Chan stepped on the landmine was the territory controlled by the regime troops.
At least 15 local civilians were killed and more than 30 were injured due to landmine explosions and artillery shelling in Kyaikto Township since the military coup.
