U Aung Win, a representative of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Dawei Township, Tanintharyi Region, passed away on the morning of August 3, sources close to his family told Than Lwin Times.

The 69-year-old NLD MP U Aung Win, who was on the run, died of buccal cancer.

U Aung Win has been on the run since he was charged with Section 505(a) of the Penal Code after the military coup.

NLD MP U Aung Win, who won both the 2015 and 2020 general elections, is well-liked in Dawei and used to work as a tutor before serving as a NLD representative.

Up to three party representatives died on the run in Tanintharyi Region as a result of charges and arrests by the military council following the military takeover, according to people close to the NLD party.
