Sittway, 15 August
A Rakhine woman rights activist and four civilians were arrested in Sittway, Rakhine state, by the military council on 15 August, her family confirmed to Than Lwin Times.
Daw Nyo Aye was taken from her home by police and other plain-clothed personnel for questioning.
“My mother is 67-year old. She is suffering both hypertension and diabetes. Before lunch time, police and other plain-clothed personnel took her. When we went to police station, they remanded her and sent to the jail. We had to make repeated request to give her food and medicines. It was very disappointed” said her daughter to Than Lwin Times.
Some remarked that the military council arrested Daw Nyo Aye and other civilians for their activities on 55thanniversary of ‘rice crisis day’ in Rakhine State on 13 August.
They have been charged with Section 505 (b) which carries two years prison term or cash penalty or both.
The report of Assistance Association for Political Prisoners said that nearly 25,000 activists of human rights and democracy have been arrested after the military coup in February 2021.
