Monywa, 18 August
Two political inmates died in a landmine attack on a prison transport vehicle that was carrying more than 100 prisoners as there were transferred from Monywa to Mandalay and Myingyan prions on 15 August.
Prominent protest leader Wai Moe Naing from Monywa Strike Leading Committee was also included in prion transfer, and the military council informed the incident to the family members of two victims.
“Photos of death bodies in leg irons were sent to their family members. Location of landmine attack remains unknown. Our Myanmar SCM-Magway Region condemns this attack. We conclude the military carried out this attack,” said Nay Mon, the former student leader of Myanmar SCM to Than Lwin Times.
The two victims were Dr Zaw Htwe Aung, the leader of Student Christian Movement and the alumnus of Magway Medical University and Ko Ar Kar Nyein Chan from Butalin township.
The bodies were buried by the military with being returned to their family members.
No one has claimed for the responsibility of the attack in which four junta members were also killed and some political prisoners injured.
The military has killed at least 20 prisoners across the country as they were taken out from prisons with the reason of prison transfer.
