More than 5,000 residents of eight villages have fled due to the junta airstrikes in KNU-controlled Nyaunglaybin District’s Mone Township, reported the KNU on 1 September.
On 30 August, a battle broke out between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the regime forces near Thit Cha Seik village in Mone Township.
The aerial assault forced 5,662 people to flee their homes from eight villages, including Thit Cha Seik, Phoe Thaw Su, Myat Ye Karen, Myat Ye Bamar, Taingpin, Kyunkon, Ohnchitkhin, and Ngalauk Taike villages.
On the same day, the Light Infantry Battalion 20 fired heavy weapons into Chon Inn village of KNU’s Shwe Kyin Township, injuring Nyar Phaw Lay Htoo, according to the statement.
The statement of the KNU said that the casualties and damage caused by the aerial assault and artillery shelling by the junta army is still being investigated.
Karen civil society organizations have reported that thousands of people have fled and are in need of humanitarian assistance due to the military council’s targeted attacks on civilians in the KNU’s Nyaunglaybin District.
