Both sides suffered casualties in the battle that erupted near Ban Kyoke village in Taninthari Township, said the spokesperson of the People’s Defense Forces of Tanintahryi.
On August 31, at around 2:00 p.m., the battle took place when local resistance groups ambushed a 70-strong column from the Light Infantry Battalion 561 based in Nyaung Pin Kwin.
Five junta soldiers were killed and one PDF comrade lost his life in the one-hour-long battle.
The LIB 561 based in Nyaung Pin Kwin and the military outpost in Theinnaw village supported its regime troops by continuously firing heavy weapons amid the battle.
Yesterday, there were no fights, but the military situation on both sides remains tense, according to local resistance forces.
Frequent clashes have erupted between the junta army and the allied resistance forces in Tanintharyi Township, where martial law has been declared.
