The battle between the junta army and the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) over the last month resulted in high losses on the junta side as well as the destruction of seven military offices and buildings, according to KNLA Brigade 5.
In August, 143 clashes broke out between the KNLA and the combined force of regime troops and the Border Guard Force (BGF) in KNU’s Brigade 5 area, Hpapun District, killing 88 soldiers, including a captain, and wounding 57 others, according to the statement.
Furthermore, the KNLA reportedly destroyed the junta’s offices, as well as seven other facilities and a military vehicle, and killed around 25 donkeys while seriously injuring another 25 donkeys.
The district immigration office, legal office, audit office, tax office, administrative staff housing, and the residence of the district immigration official were bombed on 11 August night, and the buildings were damaged by the explosion.
Five KNLA comrades lost their lives and 26 others were injured in the last month’s fighting, reported Brigade 5.
During the fighting, the regime troops fired 96 rounds of artillery shells into the village and fields, and on August 18, two fighter jets dropped four bombs between Baw Kyo Le village and Po Gar village.
The aerial assaults by the military council have made it more difficult for displaced people to get food, shelter, and health care, and local people are living in fear amid the attacks in KNU’s Hpapun District, according to the Karen Human Rights Group (KHRG).
