Yangon, 28 September
The National League for Democracy party has urged friendly countries and the international community to assist Myanmar in resolving its situation to prevent escalation of armed conflicts into a regional issue.
The Central Working Committee of the National League for Democracy (NLD) made this request on September 27, the 35th anniversary of the founding of the NLD Party.
The NLD party’s statement also includes the unconditional release of all political prisoners, including the arrested party chairperson, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and the provision of humanitarian assistance to war-affected civilians.
Moreover, it also calls on the United Nations Credentials Committee to continue to only recognize Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, who was appointed during the civilian government elected by the people of Myanmar, with the right to represent Myanmar at the United Nations.
Since the coup, nearly 1,800 members of the NLD were arrested, 97 members were killed, and the property of more than 370 party members was sealed off, according to the statement.
The statement also highlighted that regime forces had broken into various offices, including the NLD headquarters, and that there had been 160 incidents of looting, explosions, and arson attacks.
According to the statement, the NLD is consolidating and consulting party members through an online digital platform in order to act to ensure the success of the Spring Revolution and has convened the Party Central Committee three times as they are adopting and implementing the way-forward activities of the party.
The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) also sent congratulatory messages to mark the 35th anniversary of the founding of the National League for Democracy (NLD).
