Junta troops were caught in a surprise attack near Dauk Yat village in Mon State’s Belin Township on 17 October when they marched to lay in ambush, and there might have been casualties, said resistance forces.
After conducting a mine attack on the junta forces, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the People’s Defense Forces ambushed them near a school in Dauk Yat village and the Shwe Don Inn Pagoda Road.
As a result of the attack, the two sides exchanged fire for nearly half an hour, and the military council suffered casualties, said a local defense official.
Although the Local Defense Forces said that at least six soldiers may have been injured or killed in the exchange of fire, Than Lwin Times has not been able to independently confirm this.
After the battle, the junta army continued to fire heavy weapons around Dauk Yat and Khe Mauk villages and stopped at around 1:00 p.m.
The Than Lwin Times is still investigating whether there were any injuries to local residents and damage to their homes in the junta shelling.
On September 5, at least five people were injured when junta troops who advanced to lay in ambush hit a landmine near a school in Dat Yauk village.
