A female political prisoner who is being held in Dawei Prison in Tanintharyi, has been sentenced to 44 years in prison, according to the Dawei Political Prisoners Network (DPPN).
A court in Dawei Prison sentenced Ma Yin Yin Cho to another 32 years under Sections 50(j), 51, 52, and 54 of the Anti-Terrorism Act in the second week of October.
She was arrested at his home in Dawei on January 23 on charges of funding and collaborating with the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs).
After that, the military council initially sentenced Ma Yin Yin Cho to 12 years in prison under Article 50(j) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
According to a Dawei Political Prisoners’ Network (DPPN) spokesman, Ma Yin Yin Cho was sentenced to 44 years in prison, making her the longest sentenced person in Dawei prison.
More than 100 female political prisoners are kept in Dawei Prison, and more than 90% of them have been sentenced to a minimum of two years to a maximum of 44 years under various sections.
According to the October 18 report by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), nearly 1,700 people were arrested in Tanintharyi during the coup.
