Kawkayeik, 3 December
The fighting has been raging between the warring forces till 2 December in Karen State’s Kawkayeik Township, with the junta army dropping bombs on the communities, according to sources on the ground.
The fighting has intensified since the early morning of 1st December after the Karen National Union (KNU) warned all those involved in the military council’s administrative mechanicism in Kawkayeik Township to leave the town.
On December 1, the junta aircraft bombed the neighborhoods where civilians lived several times throughout the day and night.
The military council’s bombardment killed or injured civilians, while the revolutionary joint forces occupied Kawt Nwet.
General Zaw Min Tun, the spokesperson of the military council, said on the night of December 1 that the KNU/PDF joint forces were attacking their camps from a distance in Kawkayeik.
From the early morning to the evening of December 2, the military council bombed residential areas in Kawkayeik, and some civilians were injured or killed, according to local sources.
According to the officials of the social rescue teams, civilians are trapped in the town amid the fighting, and they are asking for help.
It has been said that the junta army may be using airstrikes and bombings to fortify its defenses in order to prevent the capture of the 97th Battalion of the military council in Kawkayeik.
Because of the ongoing fighting in Kawkayeik, the Myawaddy-Kawkayeik Asian Road, an important border trade route, has been closed since December 1, trapping cargo trucks, passenger buses, and many travelers.
