Launglon, 30 December
The regime troops set fire to Satpye and Lay Thoon Khan villages as they advanced towards Tanintharyi Region’s Launglon Township, destroying at least five houses, locals told Than Lwin Times.
The incident happened after around 60 junta troops entered Satpye and Lay Thoon Khan villages around 4 p.m. on 28 December.
Before the arson attack, regime forces ransacked the houses and forcibly took gold, cash, and motorcycles belonging to villages, said the sources.
Two houses in Satpye and three houses in Lay Thoon Khan villages were burned to ashes, and locals have not been able to return to their homes until now.
Since December 27, the military column has entered Waidi, Kanyon Kyun, Satpye, and Lay Thoo Khan villages in eastern Launglon using both land and water routes.
The junta invasion forced the residents to leave at least five villages and they are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance.
The Launglon People’s Defense Force (LLPDF) has instructed the local residents to stay vigilant and keep valuables safe as the junta troops start to launch an invasion.
According to data released in late September by the research group ISP-Myanmar, more than 860,000 homes were burned down nationwide during the coup.
