The military council arrested at least 15 people who run money changer services around Kyanlin Road near Myawaddy No.1 Bridge in Karen State, the locals told Than Lwin Times.
The regime staff and members of the administrative office arrested the people who were involved in money changers for Thai currency at around 3 pm on August 13.
In the evening, the authorities came and arrested the money changers, and it is not yet known why they were arrested, the sources familiar with the case told Than Lwin Times.
The military council confiscated Thai currency, banknote counter and mobile phones.
However, it is not yet known where the people from money changer services were in custody.
The price of the Thai baht continued to rise with the junta’s restrictions on the dollar, and on August 13, the exchange rate of the Myanmar currency rose to 80 Kyats per Thai baht.
The Thai-Myanmar trade has declined and some trade activities have begun to halt as a result of the rise in the price of the Thai baht.
